Alltrucks at Transport Day 2026 in Italy

TotalEnergies organised Transport Day as an industry gathering for the transport sector. This year’s event brought together not only transport service providers but also customers and prospective clients from the commercial vehicle sector. The aim was to facilitate dialogue between the various stakeholders along the transport chain. The focus was on sharing experiences and identifying practical solutions to current industry challenges.

At the round table, representatives from DAF, Daimler Truck, BPW and TotalEnergies joined us. Alice Biganzoli represented our network at this meeting. The discussion focused on decarbonisation and the further development of freight and passenger transport.

For our colleagues at Alltrucks Italia, the event provided an opportunity to exchange experiences, perspectives and proposed solutions. Road safety and the efficient management of vehicles were high on the agenda. Longer operating times and lower maintenance costs were also among the topics discussed.

Road safety was a particular focus at Transport Day. In the workshop, it starts with brakes and driver assistance systems.

A brake test involves checking, amongst other things, the condition of the brake pads, disc wear and the integrity of the system. Hoses and connections must also be included in the relevant test. The article on brake pads for commercial vehicles discusses a component whose condition has a direct impact on road safety.

Following certain repairs, additional work on driver assistance systems may be required. An ADAS calibration depends on the vehicle, the system and the manufacturer’s specifications. This applies, for example, to work involving sensors or their mountings.

Extending the service life of the vehicles was another topic discussed at the industry meeting.

Vehicle availability is the proportion of a specified period during which a vehicle is available and ready for use. Scheduled maintenance and unscheduled repairs affect this proportion. To assess this, fleets must define the period under consideration and the required operating times.

If you wish to reduce downtime, the vehicle’s service appointment, parts requirements and scope of work must all be coordinated. To achieve this, the workshop needs information at an early stage regarding symptoms and previous repairs. The fleet must know when it can hand over the vehicle and schedule it back into service.

Vehicles may also be left standing unnecessarily in the yard between individual work stages. Anyone wishing to improve turnaround times in the workshop should therefore keep track of waiting times for parts, approvals and inspections.

Transport Day also addressed solutions for reducing maintenance costs. When changing the oil, the prescribed specification, the fill level and the change interval are all interrelated. The choice of lubricant depends on the approvals for the vehicle in question.

A used oil analysis can provide additional information on the condition of the lubricant, contaminants and wear. To this end, the sample must be taken using a suitable method and clearly labelled. Details such as the vehicle, mileage, oil type and duration of use to date assist with the subsequent evaluation. Repeated analyses can reveal changes across multiple samples.

At the round table, decarbonisation was one of the challenges facing the transport sector that was discussed. The discussion centred on freight transport and passenger transport.
