An unusual noise, no clear cause of the fault, a vehicle that needs to get back on the road, and an experienced team pushed to its limits. Situations like these are part of everyday life in a workshop, and they take up time that the customer simply doesn’t have in their route planning. It is precisely for these situations that we have set up the Alltrucks Technical Forum: here, workshop partners can share their tricky cases and draw on the collective expertise of the entire network.
The forum is one of six components of Alltrucks Technical Support. Every question and every answer is documented and searchable. This means that a single resolved case becomes an entry from which the next workshop can still benefit months later.
What can you expect at the forum?
With around 360 members, some 100 topics and more than 325 specialist articles, the platform has developed into a valuable knowledge base within the Alltrucks network. Workshop partners use it to discuss technical challenges on a daily basis, support one another with troubleshooting and help source rare spare parts.
The idea behind it is simple: if a workshop in Paris has already solved a problem, a workshop in the Westerwald doesn’t need to work it out from scratch all over again. The forum makes the knowledge of the entire network available to every single workshop — regardless of its size, location or brand specialism.
This is particularly valuable in cases that cannot be resolved with a standard diagnosis. If the diagnostic tool reads out a fault code but the symptom cannot be clearly identified, the experience of others who have previously worked on the same vehicle is invaluable.
Then there’s the speed. When you post a question, you’re not just reaching a single contact person, but everyone who is currently online or following the relevant topic. Answers often come within minutes and remain visible to every other workshop afterwards.
When experience makes all the difference: a case study from Poland
A case from Poland illustrates how this works in practice. A partner workshop had replaced the clutch on a Mercedes fitted with an MP5 gearbox. Afterwards, an unusual clicking noise remained, which could be reproduced in gears 7, 9 and 11. Despite extensive investigations, the cause could not initially be clearly identified.
The symptom
After replacing the clutch, the clicking noise occurred exclusively in the higher odd gears – 7, 9 and 11. This was a specific pattern, though one that was difficult to pinpoint, and which could not be resolved using the usual diagnostic procedures.
The way to the forum
The workshop posted the case on the Alltrucks Technical Forum. Other partner workshops shared their experiences with the MP5 gearbox, until the likely cause became clear from the exchange of information.
The solution — and the follow-up case
Thanks to the shared knowledge, the problem was resolved. Shortly afterwards, a second Mercedes with exactly the same fault symptoms arrived at the same garage and was repaired much more quickly this time.
Intermittent noises that only occur in certain gears are among the most challenging tasks in commercial vehicle diagnostics. They are difficult to reproduce, depend on load and engine speed, and can quickly lead standard troubleshooting methods astray. The fact that, in the end, a tip-off from the network provided the right lead is therefore what really demonstrates the platform’s value.
The documented thread is also available to any other partner workshop that encounters the same issue in future.

Knowledge that grows every day
Every contribution adds to our shared knowledge base.
Step by step, this is how a practical reference work is created: by workshops, for workshops, based on real-life cases, real experiences and real solutions. And it grows with every question someone asks.
For individual garages, this offers a twofold benefit. Anyone who asks a question receives specific help with their current case. Anyone who searches the forum before starting their own research may well find the crucial clue they need and save hours that would otherwise be wasted narrowing down possibilities.
One specific section of the forum is dedicated to sourcing rare spare parts. If a part is unavailable from the usual supplier, or only available after a long wait, garages ask on the forum whether anyone has it in stock or knows where to get hold of it. What would otherwise add days to a vehicle’s downtime can sometimes be resolved in a matter of hours — the network proves particularly valuable when it comes to older or rarely fitted components.

A well-written forum post saves everyone time. Anyone posting a query should describe the vehicle, the engine and the exact fault symptoms as specifically as possible, including the conditions under which the symptom occurs. The more precise the question, the quicker the network will provide a suitable answer.
Why shared knowledge matters in multi-brand servicing
An independent workshop within the Alltrucks network services vehicles from the ranges of all major commercial vehicle manufacturers.
A garage that works with a particular make every day knows its typical weak points inside out. Another garage has the same experience with a different manufacturer. These areas of specialisation come together in the forum. The case from Poland is a prime example of this.
This effect becomes more pronounced with every post. The more cases that are documented, the greater the likelihood that a new problem has already been discussed on the forum. Often, this is the case even before the first question has been asked.
Reaching our goal faster together
Modern commercial vehicles are becoming increasingly complex from a technical point of view. This makes quick access to the expertise of numerous specialists all the more valuable. The Technical Forum brings together the expertise of hundreds of workshops across Europe, thereby forming a seamless part of the Alltrucks Technical Support service — alongside the Technical Hotline, Help Desk, tips and tricks, on-site support and remote support.
Often, the key solution is already there. You just need to know who to ask.
If you’re facing a tricky technical issue, can’t identify the cause of an unusual error message, or are looking for a rare spare part, the best thing to do is post your query directly on the forum. The Alltrucks Technical Forum can be accessed live at forum-alltrucks.com.
